Persia or Iran?

Persia was used as the name of this land for centuries by the people of other countries, whereas since Pahlavi dynasty was established (1925), it was asked to call it Iran internationally. 'Iran' is an ancient word meaning the land of Aryans who were probably a big ethnicity that migrated to this land before 9th century BCE (as what has been observed in Assyrians reliefs).

 

Aryans divided to three groups throughout Iran's Plateau, and identified their territories. Medians, Persians, and Parthians, respectively, established their kingdoms.

 

Persians are reputable for their golden age when Achaemenid Empire (550-330 BC) expanded their territory from China to Greece. They also built magnificent cities and palaces. Persepolis (Parseh) is an exemplary of masterpiece remained from that era.

 

At the present time, Persians are known as one of the Iranian ethnical groups like Azeri, Baluchi, Kurd, Guilaki, etc. Persian language (also called Farsi or New/Modern Persian) is the official language of Iran and it is the mother tongue of most Iranians. There are many Persian dialects and accents which are different from a region to another one.
